Helen Lunney

Native English Teacher, CELTA and DELTA qualified, Teacher Trainer and Assessor

Nationality::British
What I could talk about for hours:I could reminisce for hours about my childhood in the 1980s! Over a glass of wine my friends and I often get the photo albums out and laugh at our hairstyles and clothes. I love getting together with my family too and joking about our mad holidays on our boat, and arguments and games in the car. Such fun!
What I would take to a desert island:I’m not sure how many things I am allowed but let’s say three. I’ll limit this to things rather than people. First I’d take an iPad jammed with books - mainly thrillers. Second a generator powered by coconuts so I could charge my iPad! Thirdly, something practical like a toolbox or maybe a fishing rod.
In the last 12 months I have…… seen a lot of big changes in my life. I have entered a new decade and 150 miles from the South West of England to South Wales. I am beginning to learn a little Welsh which is hard. I have also, randomly, earned off by heart a long poem by Roald Dahl about Little Red Riding Hood.

Hello there! I’m Helen and I am a native English teacher from Cardiff in South Wales.

I’ve been teaching English since 1994 when I took my CELTA. For my first three years I worked overseas with International House in Macedonia, Spain and Portugal. I then came back to the UK and have worked as a Teacher, a Senior Teacher, a Director of Studies and a Teacher Trainer.

I have lots of experience teaching levels from absolute Beginner to Proficiency; and all ages from 7 years old to 83. As well as General English I am very experienced teaching for exams, especially PET, FCE, CAE, BEC and IELTS as well as designing and teaching tailor-made courses for ESP such as Business English and English for Travel and Tourism.

My own educational background is in Law so this is also an area I can specialise in – I love teaching Legal English! I trained and qualified as a DELTA teacher trainer and assessor in 2009 and regularly assess candidates on their lessons. This means I have to keep up to date on teaching methodologies (which also comes handy for the Professional Development course for non-native English teachers), and make sure my grammar knowledge is at its peak. Teaching English is my passion as well as my job. I am very lucky!

When I am not teaching, one of my main hobbies is acting and I am part of an improvisation group and we perform locally and even at comedy festivals. I also love spending time with my husband exploring the UK in our little caravan.

As an English teacher I am very conscious that the lesson is for the student and that he or she always needs to go away feeling they have learned something useful. I like my online English lessons to be fun, though-provoking and challenging. If you make an error, I’ll help you correct it and understand it. The joy for me in my work as a teacher is to be a part of YOUR journey. Contact me if you have any questions, I’d love to hear from you!

In the last 12 months I have…… started a postgraduate course, won a materials writing competition and joined a cycling club

Hello! I’m Katy and I’ve been teaching English for 12 years. I grew up in Birmingham, and my first career was as a newspaper reporter in nearby Wolverhampton. Natalie Thoren

Native English Teacher, CELTA qualified, MA in English

Nationality::British
What I could talk about for hours:Sherlock Holmes stories, TV comedies, food and cooking
What I would take to a desert island:Paper, pens and paints
In the last 12 months I have…… embraced all forms of online entertainment, fully explored the area where I live on foot, and done a great deal more cooking than usual

My name is Natalie, I’m a native English teacher with over 12 years experience of teaching English. I’m originally from London, but spent many years living in Spain in both Madrid and Malaga. As a result, I speak pretty fluent Spanish. Now I have settled in Leeds in the north of England. I received my degree, an MA English at Glasgow University, and later studied CELTA at International House in London. I have a vast experience of teaching General and Business English for all levels from Elementary to Proficient, and very successfully taught students for Cambridge exams as well. I particularly enjoy creating tailor-made materials for my students, and progressively introduce new vocabulary and grammar, making sure students can practise and test new knowledge straight away.

I am a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes, and in my free time I help organise Fan Club meetings with fellow ‘Sherlockians’. They’re great fun! I also love walking (briskly in the hills in all weathers), gardening (although I’m not very good at it), playing with my cats, watching films, comedy, cooking and eating!

Although I take my students’ lessons very seriously and prepare for them very carefully, I do believe learning a language should be fun. It should not be thought of as only hard work. I’m pleased when my students laugh but learn at the same time. I can be quite strict on the grammar though! Most importantly, I will treat you, as my student, as an individual with your own language learning needs, and I will make sure that your lessons are interesting, fun, and exactly what YOU need to make good progress. Get in touch if you have any questions, I’m always happy to help!

Richard James

Native English Teacher, CELTA qualified, Postgraduate Certificate in Education

Nationality::British
What I could talk about for hours:Photography and archaeology
What I would take to a desert island:Olympus OM1 or OM4 camera, and my trowel
In the last 12 months I have…… been working and exploring Poland

Hello, my name is Richard and I’m a native English teacher.

I am English, born in Nottingham, Robin Hood’s city, but have lived for many years in Brighton on the south coast. I have been very fortunate to have been able to travel extensively and I’ve lived in 11 different countries, as well as visiting many more. When I left school, I worked in a photographic shop, and then as a photographer for British Rail. Photography is one of my great passions!

My second passion is archeology. Once I left university, with Environmental Archaeology BSc and MSc under my belt, I was very fortunate to have a regular position as an archaeologist, firstly with the Museum of London and later with Oxford… only having to leaving when my knees could not take the perpetual kneeling on stoney ground and the breaking of the ice on cold winter morning! Still, it was an amazing period of my live.

Upon leaving archaeology I was free to peruse my third great passion – teaching. I did a PGCE Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Brighton University, gained a Certificate in Financial Administration and also attained a CELTA. Armed with my new qualifications I headed east to China to teach in a state school in Chengdu for two and a half years, which was a wonderful experience. I then returned to Europe and taught in various language schools – enjoying every one of them!

My speciality is in teaching Intermediate, Advanced and Proficiency level students. I like the challenge of pushing the students to learn more and more and to develop their confidence in their English skills.

I am also very experienced in teaching Business English to professionals, not just general Business skills but also English for various professions, such as English for Banking, Accounting, English for Finance, English for Sales, Business English Writing Skills and many more.

I find teaching extremely rewarding and I love seeing my students grow and develop into confident English speakers and confident professionals.

I look forward to meeting you online and exchanging ideas about our various cultures and, above all, helping you learn and improve your English language skills. You can contact me any time if you have any questions.

In the last 12 months I have…exhibited my paintings, lived in Italy and explored new landscapes

Hello! My name is Natalie and I’m a native English teacher with over 12 years of teaching experience. I am from the South West of England with its rolling rustic coastline and green fields but have been living in Southern Italy for the past two years, just under Mount Etna.

Let me tell you a little about myself. Teaching is my life and my passion! I began teaching Arts before I graduated from university studying for a Fine Art BaHons degree, and always knew my passion was in teaching. For me, the pleasure of guiding my students in their learning journey and creating a learning environment intuitively, is a very special experience and one I take very seriously.

Many years later, I am now a designer and painter and have been exhibiting in Europe for many years. I have worked with The National Trust as an artist in residence and have created design work for the front cover pages of some national magazines. In 2013, I decided to get my Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) and combining my Art and Design background with my English Language teaching.

Since I obtained my CELTA, I have taught General English to all levels from Beginner to Proficient and all ages from 2 y.o. young children through to adults, as well as Business English, the IELTS exam preparation, OET exams, Cambridge exams, KET, PET, FCE, CAE and CPE. I am an extremely dedicated and passionate teacher and take pride in preparing well thought out and tailored English lessons. Every student has an individual need and reason for starting a learning journey. For me, it is absolutely key to create intuitive, thoughtful, structured lessons, utilising student’s existing skills as well as helping therm to develop new skills and making their experience engaging and proactive.

Feel free to contact me with any questions, I look forward to hearing from you and helping you (or your child!) on the English learning journey!

Brydgette Bryon-Edmond

Native English Teacher, CELTA and PTLLS qualified

Nationality::British
What I could talk about for hours:Medieval and Tudor History, woodwork and renovating old furniture, photography, yoga, cooking, learning Spanish and the etymology of language – especially idioms!
What I would take to a desert island:Books, camera, some of my tools, a couple of interesting people and a survival kit!
In the last 12 months I have……. bought and (nearly) renovated a house in Spain, been adopted by a stray dog, missed my family a great deal

Hello! I’m Brydgette. I am English, but I live in Spain after selling up in the UK and travelling around Europe for a few years.

At the beginning of my career I studied a degree in Marketing and Multimedia, and taught Drama to children, then went into business for more than twenty years, as a business consultant and director of a radio station. I then went back to college to study CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) and PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector), and I soon realised that I wished I had been a teacher for many years – it’s so much more fulfilling!

I have been teaching English for around seven years in various countries and for a whole range of lovely students. Utilising my experience of working at the University of the Balearics as a senior tutor, I now specialise in the IELTS and Cambridge exam preparation (KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, BEC) and in teaching General and Business English as well as EAP (English for Academic Purposes) and industry-specific English.

My other speciality is teaching English to young learners. Over the last few years I have taught many children and teenagers, both General English and the English School Curriculum.

For the last year, I have been renovating an old Cortijo in the Spanish countryside. We, and especially the dogs, love it here! I love to cook, take photographs of the amazing scenery around our house and of people, work with wood and renovate old furniture. I am also studying Spanish and yoga, so I can empathise with the struggles of learning a second language! I read a lot – usually about the history of Great Britain and Europe and anything about how our languages have developed.

But, most of all, I love to teach my language. I like to make my lessons interesting, varied and personal to the learner. Everyone is different and has particular needs, and I love tailoring lessons for my students. Get in touch and let’s discuss how I can help you improve your English and achieve your learning goals!

In the last 12 months I have…… re-adapted to English weather

Hello! My name is Andrew and I am a native English teacher. I have been teaching English since 2012 and I have taught mostly in the UK, Spain and Saudi Arabia, as well as online. I have taught students from all around the world, and of every level, from Absolute Beginner to Proficient. My speciality is IELTS Exam Preparation, OET Exam Preparation, Trinity Exam Preparation, Cambridge Exam Preparation, as well as General and Business English, English for Academic Purposes and industry-specific English such as Financial English, Technical English, Medical English etc. I have taught most ages during my career, though the majority of my experience has been with adult and teenage language learners.

Roberta Lee

Native English Teacher, Teacher Knowledge Test

Nationality::British
What I could talk about for hours:Music from the 70s
What I would take to a desert island:A Kindle with lots of books downloaded
In the last 12 months I have…… become a Yogi 🙂

Hello! My name is Roberta and I’m a native English Teacher. I have a passion for linguistics and have spent years studying foreign languages myself – my fascination began at school in Cambridge where I was taught by a truly inspirational French teacher. Not only did I love learning about the structure of language, I also realised how languages could open doors to new cultures and opportunities. So, after graduating from the University of Edinburgh with a first class honours degree, I moved to Spain.

Living in Andalucia, I achieved my Teacher Knowledge Test qualification whilst teaching English at a state school. I gained considerable experience teaching a range of ages (from 3 to 16 years old), following the Cambridge Assessment for English and preparing students for their Cambridge KET, PET and FCE exams as well as helping them improve their Speaking, Writing, Listening and Reading skills. What I find so rewarding about teaching young learners is seeing their improvement from lesson to lesson; they absorb language so quickly! It is such a joy to witness  and to share an enjoyment of language learning.

My speciality is teaching the young learners and teenagers online. I aim to make every class as educational, engaging and fun as possible. My lessons are well structured, and highly engaging as I tend to use the full range of materials  – pictures, flash cards, texts, audio and video. It’s important to me that the students feel at ease in the class and confident in communicating. I strive to create this positive learning environment and I always tailor the class to the interests and needs of the students. Everyone learns in different ways and at different paces so I’m sensitive to this in my teaching approach. Get in touch to discuss how I can help you achieve your learning goals, I’m always happy to help!

Over the last thirteen years, I have gained extensive experience teaching General and Business English to all ages and levels, both in academies and giving private classes. I particularly value having had the opportunity to work for the British Council in the north of Spain, where I was able to attend a variety of professional development courses and further develop my teaching techniques. I’m happy to teach all ages from 5 years old and I have successfully prepared a large number of students for the IELTS and Cambridge exams (KET, PET, FCE, CAE and CPE).

In addition to teaching, I pursue a keen interest in science and technology by collaborating with a journalist and transcribing interviews with scientists, covering diverse themes ranging from artificial intelligence to giant atoms.
